The entrance hall is classical Georgian drama, with a centred stairway dead ahead sweeping up to a stained glass return landing before branching symmetrically out of view.
Doors through the fat walls to one side reveal a lofty drawing room ablaze with gilt furniture and intricate Adams style ceiling mouldings.
Prussian blue William Morris wallpaper is the backdrop to antique crimson camel-back sofas, wingback chairs, an antique piano, and a classical marble fireplace.
So many of the original features throughout this home have been conscientiously preserved; the double return oak staircase is original, as is the wonderful lozenge parquet flooring, and stained glass window.
Off this end of the house, guest ladies and Gents toilets are useful for large groups.

Across the main hall, past the brass dinner gong, a scarlet dining hall can seat up to 30 people for an indulgent chandeliered banquet.

The Locality
Thurles is the nearest large town just 5 minutes away with a variety of supermarkets, restaurants and shops. It is also the birthplace of the GAA (Gaelic Athletic Association), founded in 1884 in Hayes’ Hotel in the centre of the town. The local Semple Stadium is the second largest GAA sports arena in Ireland after Croke Park in Dublin.
Window tax was the property tax of the mid 18th century, and was linked to the number of windows in a home. Some of the original windows in Inch House were either blocked up or amalgamated into larger ones, such as can be seen at the front, to reduce the annual rates bill.
Inch translates as island, and the original local inhabitants occupied a raised Anglo-Norman fortress surrounded by lowlands which are frequently flooded to this day.
The unique hill top cluster of medieval monastic ruins at the Rock of Cashel, half an hour’s drive away, is a popular tourist destination and worthy of a visit.

Tipperary is home to Coolmore Stud, the largest thoroughbred horse breeding operation in the world. It is currently owned by the Magnier family, and has been associated with a long sequence of top-class stallions since the mid 1800s.
There is a pleasant loop walk with rewarding views around Devil’s Bit Mountain, 20 minutes north of the house. You have to take a short spur should you wish to visit the summit. Possibly more correctly called Devil’s Bite as a large chunk appears to be missing from certain angles.
Hunting with hounds is an ever popular tradition in Ireland that goes back to ancient times and features strongly in Celtic literature and legend. The season runs from late October to early March and packages for you or your group, including transportation, horse hire and visitors cap, can be arranged with one of the local hunts, on request.
