Reviews

My family had the most lovely stay…

at Dunderry Stud. The house itself was just fabulous and so well equipped, everything you could possibly need was there. So roomy, with comfy beds and lots of cool parts of the house to explore. The house has all the modern touches you would expect but keeps its charm. The garden was beautiful and so well maintained. The village of Dunderry itself is so quaint, the locals were so welcoming and didn’t hesitate to include us in the ‘craic’ in the local pub. We loved it and will definitely be back – our stay was too short!

Happy New Year to you and the team…

at Unique Irish Homes. I wanted to write to thank you for a wonderful stay at Dunderry Stud. My whole family (all 11 of us!) loved the home, which was beautifully and thoughtfully decorated for Christmas. We had such a comfortable stay, and enjoyed exploring Howth and Dublin from our lovely base. Also, I cannot praise Noeleen highly enough. She was so kind and helpful and gave us a wonderful welcome. We will look forward to booking with you again for our next Irish holiday.

Out & About

Within striking distance of Dublin just half an hour away, the choice of things to do in this multi-faceted historic county is legend – as they say.

Castle

Here are some of our favourites…

The Locality

The house is a short walk from the village of Dunderry which has a small shop and petrol station, and a couple of pubs. The historic town of Trim is 10 minutes away and has most of the shops you’ll need.

Town

If you’re into castles there are loads of them in Meath. You could start with Trim Castle, the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland. It was constructed in 1174 and was used in the movie Braveheart.

Castle View

Trim is also home to Ireland’s oldest unaltered bridge still in everyday use in Ireland. The existing version dates from about 1340 and has changed little since it was erected.

Navan is the home of Tara mines – Europe’s largest lead and zinc mine, but probably best known as the childhood home of Pierce Brosnan, aka James Bond.

Click here for more information on Ireland’s Ancient East

Roller Coaster

For a day out with the kids though, there are multiple attractions at the Tayto Park in Ashbourne.

One of the best ways to enjoy the landscape is on a bike, but this is fox hunting territory, so keep your head down. If you have the urge to back a horse, there are two race courses within the locality – Fairyhouse and Navan.

The river Boyne runs through Trim. The entire Boyne Valley is steeped in ancient history and mythology, and Meath itself is known as the Royal County – the Hill of Tara (15 minutes away) was the historical seat of the High King of Ireland, and there are a large number of monuments and earthen structures there, some dating from in or around 2500 BC.

Newgrange

The passage tombs at Newgrange (30 minutes away) were constructed around 3200 BC, predating the Pyramids of Egypt by 600 years, and are well worth a visit.

River fishing for Trout and Salmon, and lake fishing for Pike attract legions of anglers to this region and there are a number of well-established angling centres.

Pike

Kayaking and even white water rafting are to be had on the river Boyne, and make for a great day out.

How to get there – Car advised..

By Air: Flights to Dublin or Belfast.
Dublin Airport – about 50 minutes from the house
Belfast Airport – just under 2 hours away.

By Sea: Ferry crossings
Dublin City Port/Holyhead has a fast crossing and is about 45 minutes from the house
Rosslare Harbour for Ferries to South Wales is approximately 2 and half hours from the house.
